Acupuncture As Treatment For Anxiety

Article:
Acupuncture is a very old healing system originating from China.
Contrary to popular belief this is system is based upon solid
scientific premises. It says that the human body has certain
nodal points just under the skin, which when stimulated regulate
the function of various organs and systems of our body.
Accordingly, whenever there is a problem that manifests itself
in the form of a disease or disorder, these nodal points are
pinpricked to bring back the balance in the body.

At the first glance, acupuncture can be very intimidating and
traumatic. There are few people who would really welcome the
idea of having needles prick them at various points in the body.
However, there are two points you need to have clear when you
are considering this treatment: (i) acupuncture is said to be
very effective, and (ii) the needles hardly penetrate the tip of
your skin because the nodal points are just under the skin -
hence, no pain or discomfort is experienced at any point of time.

Acupuncture treatment is administered by a professional who is
licensed to do so. When you choose yours, pay close attention to
their experience and word-of-mouth feedback. These two factors
would be able to give you the true picture about professional in
question.  You also need to ensure that the needles are
sterilized; you can insist of having this done in front of you
to be sure. The risk of AIDS and similar incurable diseases that
can be transmitted through infected needles is too large to take
a chance on this matter. This is one reason why many people
chose to replace acupuncture with acupressure; this method works
on the same principles with the exception that it does not
require perforation of your skin with needle as it works with
the help of pressure – hence, the name acupressure.

The treatment involves a few sittings whereby the acupuncturist
would apply needles into those points on your body that promote
relaxation and release of pain. Inflammation is often associated
with stress and pain, which in turn acts as a trigger to
anxiety. Acupuncture also aims at reducing inflammation and
pain, which often go hand-in-hand with stress, anxiety attacks
and depression.  The changes are not instantaneous; it
would take a month or so with a few sessions per week until you
see a marked amelioration of your condition. But testimonies
have proved that the system works well.

The evidence shows that some people are greatly benefited by
this treatment and some are not. The one factor on which the
success of this treatment depends greatly is the proficiency of
the acupuncturist. It depends upon the depth of their knowledge
in this field, their experience and their ability to diagnose
your problem correctly. It is very much similar to traditional
doctors – some are excellent and have you on your way to
recovery in no time, while some are slower in identifying the
right diagnosis or worse, give you a wrong one. This is why it
is very important that you choose your acupuncturist carefully.
With the right professional, this treatment would not only free
you from anxiety, but also improve your overall health.
